We were going thru some notes from our trip (it has taken some months to go thru all the paper that Francine felt was important to bring back) and fell upon your website. WOW!! this is terrific. Remember us from Fraser Island? We arrived home in Brisbane today. So sad that our holiday is over and so envious that yours isn't! We finished the holiday on a high with a whale watching cruise. Fantastic! A mother and calf put on quite a display and they were almost close enough to touch. Did you do a whale cruise? I can see that we are going to be spending many hours reading your travel tales. I always keep a travel diary so will enjoy someone elses adventures. We are very impressed with your site and photos! What a great experience for Danika and Nikolas even if they don't let you know it right now. I am surprised to see you are on Lindeman Island already. Where did you leave the mainland?

This part of the trip sounds amazing. I hope you're having a great time. We were all happy to hear you will be home in November. We can't wait to see you and hear your stories in person. Well, we just got back from a week on the Oregon Coast. We stay in a yurt right on the ocean. The kids love it and want to go back again next year. School starts in 2 days. Alex is not impressed. my name is Sara and I was a clerk at the front office in the Holiday Inn Hotel in Nuremberg (you stayed there till Sunday, the third of July.) When you checked out, you gave me your card with the address of this website and I was really curious to get to know all of your steps in traveling around the world. And, respectfully, I have to say that I would never have the guts to leave everything behind myself and enter a brand new way of living. But I really admire you and your family, although I bet sometimes it was really hard for all of you.

Today we had our family picnic in Mrs. Morasco's yard. The highlight for most of the children was the bouncy castle. The food was delicious too! Everyone decorated their bike and paraded around the tennis court. There were 40 children altogether. We couldn't have asked for better weather...we were a little worried cause it rained yesterday.

We had the pleasure of meeting you in the Brussels train station on June 3. If you recall, we had been struggling with our train skills during our trip in Europe, and had missed our train to Paris. We were waiting for the next Thalis train to Paris, and your family was very kind to us - even letting us share your small table outside the cafe. Missing our train that day may have been fate, as talking to you was one of our highlights of the trip. Your family's journey is so unique. You spoke frankly of the different emotions, highlights, and struggles you had encountered. It was helpful for us since we also felt moments of exhilaration and being lost/homesick/depressed too...and we were only there for 10 days. We admire your family's courage and strength. At the time we spoke, we were questioning why we had chosen such a difficult trip, and Steve commented that when we got home we would remember how great it was. We arrived home a day ago and we are trying to absorb all that we saw and experienced.   (Now that I've had a good night sleep, I can say the trip was WORTH IT!) We have learned so much about ourselves and others...and we cannot even comprehend all that you will *continue* to experience! Your pictures and stories on the website are great, and we hope to continue to learn from your experiences. Safe travels to you all! Danika , I hope you see my son in Bristol. He is working with his friend Tim at a bar code company. Once a month they go to Lyon, France for a few days on business. Of course they go snowboarding or skiing!
Today I looked after 7 girls and 1 boy (Michael). You know Alexa, Gabrielle, Rachel, and Nikki. There are 3 new girls named Melanie and Eunice.
We had a picnic outside and then we rested inside. We played a princess game and then we went to the tennis court to ride bicycles.

Hi You Lot, Its getting exciting reading your reports, and looking at your guest list. I had a bit of a set-back in that I caught a good old chest infection and have been out of action nearly two weeks and am just beginning to find my feet. However Heart Rehabilitation Nurses have been great and I will join their 8 week program and they are more than satisfied with how things are despite the infection. Danika....guess where I just came back from... CHINA !!!   It is a very spacious country unlike Japan. The people were very nice too. We went for 12 days with our 2 friends, DaviDiana. We think our Chinese food in Vancouver is the best. You are very lucky to try different food in every country. Would Mom or Dad be able to write down a few of your experiences for you? Hi y'all...well getting use to 'roughing it' without all meals prepared, rooms cleaned etc????Back in NYC it is quite spring 'around the corner' 70 degrees and sunny...I do miss the QE2 for the 'escapist' part of my personality...but back to my real world of corporate BS..at least it pays for those great escapes I indulge in. read your whole story and have been moved to tears at parts. You are doing the right thing. I travelled since I was very young and always felt that it was the ' gold ring' of my education. After all that time that we spent on the 'LIZ', I do regret not getting to know you and Helen more intimately....always seeing the 'little princess' work the room (LOL) and wondering why you were doing this trip...Know I understand and support your decision...why wait until your are infirm? Love looking at my digitals and can hardly wait until next Jan for the QM2 Magellan round South America/Cape Horn adventure. Alas, only 38 days but...it's a start.

Steve I must say this web site is one the smarter things you have ever done (which means Helen probably came up with the idea - just kidding Steve everyone who knows you, well maybe I should just stop hear before I put my foot in it any further) It is really nice that you are sharing this experience though.
I went in to watch some of the hockey tournament the other day and it made me wish I was playing. Surrey only had one team in the "C" division and I think they won. Hopefully someone will give a better report.
As it is 3' o'clock in the morning and we have to back and finish fire watch so I will sign off. Glad I start holidays in about four hours. Off to Las Vegas for a couple of days to support the U.S. enconomy so I will look forward to my next installment of your adventure. Take care.

Hi Steve and Family! I've really enjoyed reading your log on your adventures. It's cool to hear you describe what you think of places that we visited when we were over there in 95. I was wondering if the Buddah you saw at the Grand Palace was the building that you were not allowed to speak, take pictures, put your feet toward the Buddah etc.?
If it was, there was a sign on the outside that said "This is Thailand's most sacred building that only 2 words have been spoken in, in 300 years" Did you see it?

Hello Everyone!

Just a little note to say thank you to everyone that has has left us a little message in our guest book. During our long days at sea we really enjoy reading them and it is so exciting to hear from strangers that have friends or relatives on board!
On that note, many of the messages have been from friends and family of Father O'Shea. We are all very sad and upset to of heard about his illness and want to wish him a speedy recovery. If spirit has anything to do with the recovery process we are absolutely sure this wonderful man will be back on his feet in a short time. We miss him terribly at dinner and it just doesn't feel quite the same without him there at the next table!

Wow what a trip you guys are having amazing pictures, life here is pretty good to. We've been busy with Spencer and Halle playing soccer. Spencer also plays hockey and Halle's also busy with dancing. We've taken the kids on two ski trips to Whistler, what a blast. Reg and I are very busy with tree work so life is good here. I too am a nurse I work at U.C.I Medical center in Orange California as a Burn Nurse. I've been reading more and more about your trip and family and it's been very educational and interesting. By the end of your trip I'm going to feel as if were friends, maybe someday we will meet at a convention. I going to all the World Burn congress put on by the Phoenix society for burn survivors and try to make the American Burn Association conferences. I've met a lot of Canadians at both. I'm even a member of the Dead Goats Society. A fun little club established by some crazy Canadian firefighters. Anyway thanks again for allowing me to visit your site.

Nikolas, I am very impressed with your writing-I think you are doing an excellent job. Do the Panama people build their houses up high so that they can bury their dead under their houses? Their boats are huge. Do their trees grow so big because they get so much sunshine and rain? Maybe you will decide to be a travel journalist one day and get paid to go on awesome trips. Or maybe you'll host a tv show like This Lonely Planet. Tell your parents that I like their stories too but your dad needs to watch his grammar. It'll be cool to see what the Japanese memorial looks like when you get there. I'm glad that your dad didn't let you boogieboard with the undertow. Hey guys! What an amazing adventure you have begun!! Your site is so much fun and your stories are so well told. We were in Kuala Lumpur for 3 weeks in October and we had an absolute blast. Hi Steve and Helen, sounds like a good trip so far . I wish it were me. We just wanted to let you guys know that we had a baby boy on Dec. 31. at 22:30. You know that he is a Morris because a Dhillon would have stayed in for the new year and collected the prizes. Anyway I would have let you know sooner but he got pneumonia right away and they took him away from us for a week. He is home now and we are very happy. His name is Devon and he was 9 lbs.

Hello to you all. Sorry to hear your not feeling well, Helen, if I can give you any advise Helen, it's try not to think about it, easier said than done though. I have had that same motion thing and it's not fun. Have you tried the ear patches, wrist bands etc.
Gravol will likely make you drousy. Sorry to hear your not 100% too Steve, take it easy, it is a holiday and I have a feeling your not going to balloon out from over eating. Take it easy though and try not to think about it. Again, easier said than done. Well you guys it's -1 here, and with the wind it's -10 c. We have 4 inches of snow and it's suppose to stay cold for some time. We'll be thinking about you all in the warm sun and hopefully calm sea's. The girls say hi to the kids.

Steve, Helen and family. We have been thinking of you lots with the adventure before you. I just said to the kids, well their in New York right now and we'll be watching for you in times Square tonight. Nice start with the shamalama drunk man... you won't be seeing him again! It must be almost an awkward feeling backing all your stuff and beginning your trip. It will probably get easier as you go, but not without it's challenges or mix-ups. I imagine you must have to change some of your plans because of what has happened overseas. How terrible, we could not start to comprehend the devestation over in Asia. Finally our government has stepped up and will match all donations Canadians make to certified aid like Red Cross, Save the Children etc. We were on the Island for the Barber side of Christmas and got home last night. Before we had our big dinner with all the family there we got on the phone and donated to the aid to help those effected by the tidal waves. Although small in scope every bit helps. It's rather humbling sitting here in the living room, warm house, clothes on our back, fridge and freezers full of food etc. I could go on. I wish we could be there to help in some way but that is'nt possible. It's just hard to believe.
Anyway, are you all excited? How cool what you guys are about to embark on! Good for you all! When are you hopping on the boat? Keep us posted as we will be thinking of you often.
How are you feeling Steve, is everything OK? Is everyone healthy or did some of you manage to get the bug before leaving on your adventure?
